Cut Flower Care

Here are some quick tips for cut flower care to help you prolong the freshness and beauty of freshly cut farm bouquets:

  1. Trim the stems: Upon receiving your bouquet, trim the stems at an angle with sharp, clean scissors or pruners. This helps create a fresh surface for water uptake and prevents the ends from becoming blocked with bacteria.
  2. Remove foliage: Remove any foliage that will be submerged in water to prevent it from decaying and contaminating the water. This also helps to direct the plant’s energy towards the blooms rather than the leaves.
  3. Use clean water: Fill a clean vase with fresh, cool water. Avoid using hot or cold water, as extreme temperatures can shock the flowers. Change the water every 2-3 days, or when it becomes cloudy.
  4. Add flower food: Many farm bouquets come with a packet of flower food. Follow the instructions on the packet and add it to the water. Flower food provides essential nutrients and helps to inhibit the growth of bacteria, keeping the water clean and the flowers nourished.
  5. Keep cool: Place your bouquet in a cool location away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat sources. Avoid placing them near ripening fruits, as fruits release ethylene gas that can shorten the lifespan of cut flowers.
  6. Re-cut stems: Every few days, re-cut the stems at an angle and remove any faded or wilted blooms. This helps to improve water uptake and keeps the bouquet looking fresh.
  7. Mist the blooms: Lightly mist the blooms with water using a spray bottle to provide additional hydration and help maintain their freshness.
  8. Avoid touching the blooms: Handle the flowers as little as possible, as the natural oils on your hands can transfer to the petals and cause them to wilt more quickly.
  9. Avoid overcrowding: Avoid overcrowding the flowers in the vase, as this can limit their ability to take up water and accelerate wilting. Give each stem enough space to allow for optimal water uptake.
  10. Enjoy and appreciate: Lastly, remember to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of your farm-fresh bouquet! With proper care, you can extend their lifespan and continue to enjoy their vibrant colors and fragrant blooms.

I hope these quick tips for cut flower care help you make the most of your freshly cut farm bouquets and enjoy them for as long as possible!
